Dr. Billy Graham tells the story of a little boy who got his hand stuck inside a very valuable vase. His father patiently tried to help the boy remove his hand, but it wouldn't come out. The father was thinking of breaking the vase when he said, "Now, my son, make one more try. Open your hand, and hold your fingers out straight and then pull." To his astonishment the little fellow said, "Oh no, Father. I couldn't put my fingers out like that, because if I did I would drop my penny."
Dr. Graham finishes his story by saying, "Smile if you will-but thousands of us are like that little boy, so busy holding on to the world's useless penny that we cannnot accept liberation. I beg you to drop that trifle in your heart. Surrender! let go, and let God have his way in your life."
To let go is to admit you can't control everything. To let go is to leave the past behind you and look to a bright and exciting future. To let go is to recognize that anger rarely gets you what you want. To let go is to give all your worries to him who has power over each today and every tomorrow. To let go is to realize that missionary Jim Elliot was right when he said, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." To let go is to live life to the fullest.
