One of the most influential Christians in American history started out as a major-league baseball player. He was born in a small town in Iowa in the late 1800's and was known for his drinking and betting. In spite of the ridicule of his colleagues, he turned his life over to Jesus Christ after hearing a group sing gospel hymns. He played major league baseball four more years before God called him to be an evangelist. Over the next twenty-five years of his life he delivered the message of salvation in Christ nearly twenty-thousand times and an estimated two million people received Christ as their Savior because of his ministry. In a ten week campaign in New York City alone, a million and a half people came to the meetings. All this because a small town boy gave up what most people would consider a dream job playing in the major leagues. Yet Billy Sunday's life was dedicated to something much higher-God's word.
