BIBLE MEDITATION:
"He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God." John 3:18

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The world doesn't really know what sin is. They think sin is lying,
stealing, murder, adultery, arson, rape. No, those are sins. Do you know
what sin is? Sin is the rejection of Jesus Christ that will damn a soul to
hell. You don't go to hell because you steal, lie, kill, or fornicate.

I hear people say, "Sure, I lie every now and again, but God isn't going to
send me to hell for that. I might fry a few years in purgatory, but to die
in hell for lying doesn't make sense."

When a man talks that way, he doesn't understand sin.

Sin is high treason against a holy God. Sin is a clenched fist in the face
of God. Sin says to God, "I will not bow to You. I will not serve You. I
will not trust You." That is sin.

ACTION POINT:
The great commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
The great sin is not to do it.Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-27747940728524586352011-07-16T12:26:00.002-04:002011-07-16T12:26:19.592-04:00Wednesday Evening serviceThe Locust Grove Baptist church Wednesday evening service is now online for listening/downloading.

Farrokh-Bulsara is not a well known name yet at one point in his life he possessed all the world had to offer. He had become a millionaire at least 50 times over at a relatively early age, he had fame and adulation of fans on a global scale. He once gave himself a birthday party at the exclusive Berkshire Hotel in New York, flew his friends to it from Europe on the Concorde supersonic jet, the party went on for days and was attended by scores of celebrities. Yet with all the trappings of fame and fortune he made this statement.."YOU CAN HAVE EVERTHING IN THE WORLD and still be the loneliest man, I've had lots of lovers, I tried relationships on either side, male and female, but all of them have gone wrong. Sucess has brought me idolization and millions of dollars but has not satisified me."
The man the world knew as Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the rock music group Queen which sold over one-hundred million records made this statement shorty before his death at age fourty-six from the disease AIDS.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

A little over six hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Jeremiah came upon the scene in Judah. God’s people had abandoned loyalty to Him and were on the verge of being completely carried away into captivity due to their sins (Jeremiah 25:8-14; Deuteronomy 28:63-64). Through the prophet Jeremiah, Jehovah begged His people to return to Him but they would not (Jeremiah 4:3-4; Jeremiah 6:16). He gave them plenty of time to repent before sending the armies of Nebuchadnezzar for destruction, yet they refused to heed (Jeremiah 5:21). Those of Judah had the privilege of serving the Almighty God but they chose rather to live below their privileges. Jeremiah, the weeping prophet cried out, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved” (Jeremiah 8:20). Then, he asked a haunting question, “Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people” (Jeremiah 8:22).

Jeremiah’s point was simply this: To be sin sick before Jehovah made no sense at all. The opportunity to repent was there and to ignore it was the same as a diseased man refusing balm in Gilead, a territory known for its medicinal remedies. We marvel that Judah would live below her privileges and that she did not take advantage of the opportunities she had. However, do not many do the same today? Let us consider the following thoughts:

1) There is saving power in the gospel (Mark 2:17; 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 John 2:2). However, many refuse to obey the gospel and find healing for their sin sick souls (Romans 10:16; cf. Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 10:17).

2) There is enabling power in the gospel (1 Corinthians 1:18; cf. Acts 20:32; Romans 1:16; James 1:21,22; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). Despite this truth, there are those who are spiritually weak and powerless because they do not avail themselves of the word of God (2 Timothy 2:15; Matthew 4:4; 1 Peter 2:2).

3) There is focusing power in the gospel (Matthew 5:16; Matthew 6:33; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Philippians 1:21; Philippians 3:13-14). The gospel provides purpose for living, yet many live purposeless lives. The Christian is to glorify God in all that he does as he seeks to put the Kingdom absolutely first (Matthew 6:33). This mindset, motivated by the gospel, helps a man to carry out his true reason for living (Isaiah 43:7; Ecclesiastes 12:13).

4) There is fulfilling power in the gospel (John 10:10; Philippians 4:4-9; I Thessalonians 5:16). Christian living is abundant, joyous living. Yet many are unhappy and unfulfilled. Why is this? Because they have chosen to live beneath the privileges of the gospel.

Conclusion

Judah had every opportunity to be blessed by God (Deuteronomy 28:1-2), yet they chose the underprivileged path. When we choose not to serve the Lord with all of our “heart, soul, mind and strength” (Mark 12:30-31), we too choose to live beneath our privileges. Therefore, let us choose the path of spiritual riches found in Christ, where there is salvation, strength, purpose and happiness. “Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there?” (Jeremiah 8:22) To ask the question, is to answer the question.Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-70994897765941767602011-03-25T11:26:00.000-04:002011-03-25T11:26:10.280-04:00Wednesday Evening serviceThe Wednesday evening service is now online for listening/downloading.
Just then the back door opened and a man came down the aisle. The minister frowned as he saw the man hadn't shaved in awhile, his shirt was shabby and his coat was worn and frayed. The man knelt, bowed his head a few moments the rose and walked away.
Each day at noon in the days that followed the man repeated this routine without fail. One day the minister noticing the man carried a lunch pail stopped him asking "why do you come here each day?" The man replied he worked at a factory down the road and used his lunch break to pray. As the minister listened the man prayed "I just came again to tell you, Lord, how happy I've been, since we found each others friendship and you took away my sin. Don't know much of how to pray, but I think about you everyday. So Jesus this is Jim checking in today." Feeling guilty the minister told the man he was welcome to the church any time. One day the minister noticed the man had not been to pray for a while, asking at the factory he found out Jim was very ill and was in the hospital. Visiting Jim there the nurses said he had no visitors, flowers or calls from friends. Yet his smiles and kind words brought joy to the staff. The minister asked him how he could be filled with joy when he was seriously ill and no friends to call. The man replied, "the nurses are wrong, someone is here all the while. Everyday at noon He's here, a dear friend, He sits right down, takes my hand, leans over and says to me; I just came again to tell you, Jim How happy I have been , since we found this friendship, and I took away you sin, always love to hear your prayer in which you say; I think about you every day, so Jim this is Jesus checking in today."Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-84560036332859802622011-03-03T09:17:00.002-05:002011-03-03T09:36:06.558-05:00Thought for todayBeware that thou not forget the Lord thy God in not keeping His commandments, and his judgements, and His statutes, which I command thee this day.

Deuteronomy 8:11

God's word tells us very plainly that we are not to forget or ignore His commandants. These lumps have to be worked out by the potter's hand and this process takes time. The more lumps the potter leaves, the less valuable the pot and the greater the odds of the pot cracking, or even blowing up when it is fired in the furance. Which turns soft clay in a strong useful pot. As followers of Christ we need to be aware that as we go thru the trails and tribulations of life God is forming us into a strong and useful vessel for His purpose.

When in God's providence believers are exposed to the pressures of being isolated, opposed, tempted, humbled, disappointed, and hurt, the divine purpose is that these things should further our transformation into the likeness of our savior.Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-57731838098211363492011-02-19T15:26:00.002-05:002011-02-19T15:27:41.676-05:00Wednesday Evening serviceThe Wednesday evening service for Locust Grove is now online for listening/downloading.

http://www.mediafire.com/?wqd2n737u55dbb7Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-16505841230948915342011-02-06T13:10:00.001-05:002011-02-06T13:11:12.924-05:00Sunday Morning serviceThe Locust Grove Baptist church service for Sunday morning 2/06/2011 is now online for listening/downloading.Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-74027218413461142032011-02-03T08:24:00.003-05:002011-02-03T08:26:10.597-05:00Wednesday evening ServiceLocust Grove Baptist church service for 2/2/2011 is now online for listening/downloading.

http://www.mediafire.com/?jqkxvpfluas0h38Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7901580666660333669.post-41075147741971287622011-01-24T09:35:00.002-05:002011-01-24T09:47:38.784-05:00Thought for TodayYears ago, some men were on a leaky old ship in the middle of a rough and stormy sea. One of them asked the captain, "Are we safe?" He said, "Well, the boilers are weak and may explode at any moment. The ship is taking on water. Jesus does however condemn those that attempt to feed their soul with material possessions. Jesus talked about a rich man having a hard time entering into the kingdom of heaven and goes on to state that it is the love of money that is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10).
The Bible refers to prayer about five hundred times, to faith less than five hundred times and to material possessions more than one thousand times. Money was God's first, the man who refuses to recognize this in the use and possession of money taints his own soul with selfishness, covetousnesss, dishonesty and even the blood of others. The following Bible verses are just a few of God's commandments concering the stewardship of what God has blessed us with.

The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all. (Proverbs 22:2)

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness (Proverbs 11:4)

Labor not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. (Proverbs 23:4

And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. (Luke 12:15)

God commands that Christians put Him first in every aspect of their lives and makes this promise of provision that every need we have will be met thru Him.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Many times the accumulation of wealth in this world brings heartache and troubles but God promises His blessing come without these consequences.

The blessing of the Lord, maketh rich and He addeth no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22Locust Grove Baptist Churchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15333462457155330640noreply@blogger.com
